“It’s been the most extraordinary career and anybody who thinks that working with those with addiction is ever boring - it’s never boring and it’s always worthwhile.”
Warmth, humanity and dedication is the order of the day as addiction treatment pioneer Dame Clare Gerada speaks to Clouds House Treatment Consultant Michael Rawlinson about her incredible career, the origins of her interest in addiction treatment, what she is currently up to including the NHS services Practitioner Health and Primary Care Gambling Service, and the charity Doctors in Distress.
Particularly relevant at the moment during the pandemic, Dame Clare discusses her work for medical staff - and tells us how she believes that ‘every single care and health worker should have a space where they can talk about the emotional impact of their work ….a confidential space that is uninterrupted,” and goes on to tell Michael that “we care for our patients as we would wish to be cared for ourselves.”
A must watch.
